    The demons are playing on Karras’s doubts of Reagan’s genuine possession.

    “The demon is a liar…”. The demon knew Karras needed proof for the church to approve an exorcism – so reacting this way to unblessed water would put the possession in doubt.

    When Father Karras sprinkles “holy water” on Regan, she acts violently. But, according to Karras, it was just tap water. So, what happened?
