Finally got around to actually watching the movie on BR.

I love the packaging, seems to be what most re released blu rays are like now.  You go into the special features on both discs and you're just overwhelmed with special features, which were all great.  I've only seen the 30 minute or so version of the FoG documentary so it was nice to see the extended version, love it..  Although I'm still wondering what Friedkins secret signal was to roll the camera and sound =P. Seeing how he would “kid” Linda into doing these harsh scenes was also very great to see in 'Raising Hell'.

As far as the movie goes, it looks and sounds absolutely fantastic.  Amazing, clear and vibrant colour yet not harsh or overpowering.  Listening to it through Pioneer SE-M390's the sound was great.. It can get really unnerving watching it at night with heaphones, haha.

    Yeehaw! Mine arrived today.

I shall allow myself to watch the extras but no movie until I get into the flat…

Amazon told me it had shipped and would arrive today, but DHL tell me they only just received it and it probably won't arrive until Monday. F**k it. Yell

Ha, I've yet to pop in the original and that is my favorite version! Now that's a shame on me! However, I figured that WB just used the EDC and cut out the extraneous crap from it.

BTW, wasn't there a poll on here at one time about which version folks liked?

You're right FB, that was a poll that ran quite some time ago (and was quite popular). My database should still have it stored, I'll try to dig it up and surface it again.

Thanks, Cap. I thought it was on the home page when you did the poll. It would be great to see the numbers.

I prefer the new cut best. THe only change I would make is the tongue spider-walk be thrown in there instead of the bloody one. Speaking of the spider-walk, I think it would look better if they slowed it down a bit. It looks sped up.

etrigan, Linda Hager probably had a hard time keeping the fake blood in her mouth. I can't even image trying to do that walk at any other pace than super-fast! Although, i agree with you that it does look rather sped up.

I got home late yesterday and found the Blu had arrived. I took a look at the theatrical cut (I’m not all that interested in the other version) and I have to say, it’s never looked better! The definition in the Iraq scenes was staggering and as it segued into the Washington DC scenes the improved colour grading was very noticeable. This is a film I’ve watched many times in the cinema and on DVD in both the original theatrical and the other version and therefore have a kind of subconscious awareness of where things have been changed. The lighting in the house seemed very different: much more naturalistic and, dare I say it, brighter.

I also liked the old-school subtitles on the Iraq scenes, as opposed to electronic, player-generated subs that have been the bane of so many DVD releases of movies down the years!

I’ll post more after watching the whole film – Hey! I’d had a long day and been down the pub! 😉

Just noticed… the Original Theatrical disc has an “evil-to-good-Karras CGI morph” right before he jumps out the window.  All releases before the 25th Anniversary had just a simple cut between the two faces.

One thing (out of many) I do really enjoy about this BR release is the color of the opening/end titles, they're actually red.  A bright red.  TVYNS's titles are pinkish-red in comparison!

My favorite scene is still when Kinderman is interviewing Chris and half way in she comes to the realization that Regan killed Burke. She asks him if he would like some coffee hoping he would say, “No thanks, Gotta get going” and instead he says “Yes”. The look of disappointment in her eyes says it all.

The way her face turns as soon as she has her back to him is amazing. When he finally leaves she breaks down as soon as the door is closed. That whole scene is just brilliant because there is a unspoken subtext to it. Pure acting!

I agree … Burstyn is so great in that scene …

It's almost 330am and I've just finished watching the Original Theatrical Cut on Blu-ray for the first time. My heart grew warm. It looks fantastic, it has never looked better. I honestly felt like, at times, I was seeing it for the first time all over again. I was filled with nostalgia and joy. Such a masterpiece!

    Simply amazing.
