I first saw “The Exorcist” in a movie theater in July 1975. I had read the book and heard all the controversy surrounding it and the film. I was 14 when my father took me and two friends to see it. We loved it. I became a big fan and collected whatever I could find on the movie and Linda Blair (on whom I had a huge crush). A few noteable items in my collection are:
-An original one-sheet movie poster
-Original lobby cards and stills
-Original press kit put out by Warner Bros.
-Many magazines including an odd monster periodical called “Castle of Frankenstein” which had an extensive 2-part article on the movie in 1974 (I think). I also have the original motion picture soundtrack on vinyl.
Some of you probably own these items, too.
At one point I had audio cassette recordings with Linda Blair on “The Merv Griffin Show” as well as Sammy Davis, Jr's's short-lived talk show. I also have a recording of Ellen Burstyn on Geraldo Riviera's segment on some ABC news late night show. She also talked about “Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.” At one time I had an Exorcist t-shirt, but I haven't seen it in years.
I don't own an HD TV or Blu-Ray, so I'm missing out on the best prints. But I do have the 25th Anniversary DVD boxed set that came out in 1997. I did see the Blu-Ray extras on Youtube. I'm looking forward to the 40th anniversary print, so maybe I'll cough up the cash and buy a new TV and Blu-Ray player!
I lived in Washington, DC for many years and visited the famous steps many times. I also met a guy who said he was an extra in the movie.
Glad to have discovered this board, and I hope to meet other fans. Hope my posting wan't too vulger display of power.
