I always thought it was nothing more than friendly banter, but maybe someone else has a different take on this?

Just friendly Banter giving us an insight into Kinderman’s sharp wit and character.

It is a joke. Blatty wrote several comedies before writing The Exorcist.

I always thought it was sarcasm disguised as friendly banter.

Is there a joke or some other hidden meaning behind Kinderman’s invitations to Karras and Dwyer to go the the movies?

When they ask what’s playing, he gives them a serious movie with comedic actors, to which they reply that they’ve already seen it. Is this a play on a scene from another movie, or was he just testing their movie knowledge?

    Thanks.

Yea. Just an odd bit that wasn’t intended to be really all that funny. It’s like asking, “How long does the television show 60 minutes last?”
