Great thoughts, Ben, but word around the campfire is that such happening is impossible, that the footage was negligently if not purposefully lost by that beacon of artistic honor, that champion of artists, that is [not] Morgan Creek.

But… because I believe in recycling… 😛 I re-offer this potential alternative, aside from a very welcome audio commentary of the film on a future DVD re-issue (fingers crossed!):

“…The most conceivable as being realistic in happening: An alternate version of the Legion novel. Blatty, of course, has revised Twinkle, Twinkle, “Killer” Kane into The Ninth Configuration, tying in with the film version, if I understand this right. AND, Morgan Creek commissioning two novelizations — one for the first prequel, and then the replacement. Maybe they’ll “double-dip” here as well, if they own any rights. Then again, they own all FUTURE rights, counting THE EXORCIST III aka, Legion, but NOT — if I’m not mistaken — the current Legion novel, a work created independently of its later cinematic visage. Morgan Creek only own the script. Sooo, while Blatty might not be able to do much, perhaps he create all new or significantly different material compared to what he brought to the lost and released versions of the film. I’d settle for THAT, I don’t know about you guys.

The law can only afford Blatty so much, so perhaps he ought to cut his losses and rise to the occasion, striving to tell the best “Legion” story he can independant of any of the film version’s baggage, concentrating on presenting what could conceivably be — or may as well be, rather — a veritable brand-new novel. The same novel, just improved.”

I just said to Justin that, once I receive this latest batch of rare Spanish and German lobby stills, I’ll create a slideshow of all the rare/unused Legion images I have archived in sequential order to how they would have appeared in the original cut. It’s not much, but it’s something.

Something I’ll be waiting for with bated breath 😉

Ah the power of language, Blizzi:

Just an intersting observation. I think you are the only one who has read the “Burke pt.1”, which included the line: He held it at arms’ length, his thumb outlining the limp torso of Jesus. Poor bastard,” he uttered with bated breath, “didn’t even get a final toast”.

You replied to it at 7:39 pm…

Then your reply here at 7:45 pm included the words, “Bated breath”.

Facinating! And I’ve had too much caffiene this morning. 🙂

Maybe we’ll at least get a 10th-anniversary-of-the-first-DVD DVD. In two years. 2009. 😛

Granted, the only difference between the 1999 one and such a followup would be the new one would have a keep-case, not the passe snapper. Gee, THANKS, Morgan Creek and WB. 😛 Surface, surface, surface! Naaah… give us CONTENT.

Trying to be optimistic for something, anything,

The footage exists. It is, however, misplaced.

All four of my eyes are on EKM’s forthcoming book.

Indeed, ekm’s book is going to drag much about this film back into the open.

    Friends,

I know we have all said it before, but man o man, what I would do to get an ultimate version of LEGION. The whole movie, not one thing left out, audio commentary, documentary, promotional stills… sure we can petition this?
    🙂
