ParticipantIt’s actually more like 9 days. Released on October 5.

ParticipantI think FB was referring to the one day theatre event =P

ParticipantWe don’t get it until the 11th here in the UK, so no spoiling it for me now people 😉

ParticipantDamien is correct. I was referring to the 9/30 debut; not the BR release date. I’m just excited to see the newly remastered version with the documentaries in any format, especially the premiere!

ParticipantWell, obviously the shock value of The Exorcist isn’t nearly as great as an initial viewing, after seeing this movie several times over the years.
BUT… one emotion I’ve gotten in more recent viewings is my eyes almost well up toward the end, when Chris sees the cured “normal-looking” Regan crying while in a fetal position. That whole scene, in fact! The shot of lifeless Merrin, Karras at the bottom of the steps, Kinderman looking over at Chris and Regan embracing.
I don’t know if it’s me showing my age (probably is), but the scene didn’t affect me like that when I first saw the movie on VHS in 1990.
Point is, I may have uh, “something in my eye” in the theatre on Thursday 😉September 27, 2010 at 6:34 PM #23188Regan
ParticipantSo who found all this behind-the-scenes footage? I thought Kermode pilfered those vaults ages ago.
September 27, 2010 at 11:41 PM #23192fatherbowdern
ParticipantRegan,
You are right about Kermode having access to the excess and unused footage. As an aside, this is why I still believe a bloody variant of the spiderwalk never took place … hopefully I will be proven wrong on Thursday night by actually seeing the BTS material. “If ain’t there, it ain’t there and I believe in the concrete vs. abstract.”
The extra documentary footage comes from the incredible cinematographer, Owen Roizman. He was clever enough to film the BTS (sans the sound). It’s really amazing when you think about it and how forward thinking he was because he said he knew this was a very different kind of film. Ka-Ching!

ParticipantI’m so incredibly pumped for this Thursday, and then for the 5th! I don’t even own a Blu-ray player (yet…still paying off my new Mac, so it’ll have to wait) but I totally pre-ordered this one. Just couldn’t pass it up. I’ve had my Fandango tickets for Thursday since last month (thanks to whomever it was that pointed out the one night only re-release…you’re my hero!) I’ve wanted to see The Exorcist in theaters for SO long. I was only 11 or 12 when it was re-released in 2000, so I’ve been waiting a while. I’ve seen it umpteen and a half times, but I’m going with a friend who has only seen it once years and years ago, so THAT should be fun. The next two weeks is going to be like Christmas!

Participantstraw, I know what you mean … I now have a group going with me on Thursday! All credit for finding this event goes to flashgordon26 by pointing this out here.
flashgordon26 made a lot of people happy here in the U.S. I do sincerely hope this event will spread further to other countries, but Fandango is in U.S. territories for now.

ParticipantNew previews: http://www.movieweb.com/dvd/DVaGKBLugJVnee/videos/
SPOILER ALERT:
Not only will we be getting the amazing behind the scenes footage of almost every scene, but also footage from the Captain Howdy reel AND almost the entire deleted Washington sightseeing sequence… the main two things fans have been asking for. Is this a dream?!
September 28, 2010 at 12:50 PM #23201Sofia
ParticipantI must say that I literally cried before starting to watch ‘The Trip to Washington’, after waiting 10 years for this. Only now, I feel disappointed by Linda and Ellen’s acting at the end of the scene (when they talk about death). That was such a serious, touching moment in the novel, and I was expecting it to be exactly like it: Regan is solemn and sad and has her eyes misted with tears when she asks her mother ‘why do people have to die? and ‘why does God let them’. But, Linda and Ellen are actually giggling while talking about it…

ParticipantI’m really impressed by the visual clarity of all this wonderful footage.
So, per Friedkin, if it weren’t for the soundtrack being missing, that scene would’ve been put back in the movie??
Well, better to just leave it out, instead of trying to somehow recreate the audio with foley work and voice impersonators or something.
Besides, like Sofia said, Regan was supposed to be misty-eyed and sad, and Linda just looks mildly concerned.Linda saying the line with Friedkin’s voice is a bit of a hoot.
September 28, 2010 at 8:10 PM #23207Sofia
ParticipantYeah, exactly, she just looks mildly concerned. But that goes for every ‘normal-Regan scenes in the movie. They completely changed her personality -from a shy, diffident girl in the novel- to a ‘all the time giggly girl’ That was Friedkin’s fault, though. The only acting training Linda had was from him, and he asked her to be natural and act like herself.
