KeymasterNo, I don’t think that the demon (Pazuzu) was removed at this point. I believe, for the sake of a film-viewing audience, we see Karras’ eyes and features return to normal as he screams “NO!” to help illustrate the fact that his Faith is once again strong. So strong that his soul could surface above the demon (whil Regan’s could not). This moment of Faith being superior gives Karras the will to leap through the window.
One issue I always had was the suicide is a sin. Technically (by the book), suicides go to Hell. But what if the suicide is for a greater good as in Damien Karras’ situation?

Participant“There is no greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend.†-Jesus Christ
So when instead someone suicides, it does not reflect Christ’s example and sacrifice; it’s meaningless, displays no love toward another, and is a sin. An unforgivable sin, with no room or opportunity for repentance. And thus a real, real tragedy and shame. As least with sacrificing oneself for someone else’s well-being, there is a positive; and example is made, and a reminder to all that living for others, first living for God, is the best way of all. And specifically, we don’t have to die to help those around us, but we can be on the lookout to go without, to sacrifice, smaller, everyday things, with our fellow man and woman in mind, friends or strangers.
My two preachy cents. 🙂

Participantsuicide is ultimately an act of vanity,
this is part of the point,Damian Redeems himself so to speak, by this point Damian has finally let go of his doubt in God, He Beleives, He’s excepted that this is truely a Demon or the Devil, thats why he says “You son of a bitch”.
Jumping out the window is Spontanious, The Window is directly infront of Him, he Beleives that in this Moment it’s the Only way defeat the Demon, By destroying the Vessel it is in.
so in this Moment he was not being Vain.Of Course He wasn’t entirely succsesful, thats made obvious in LEGION/EXORCIST 3.

ParticipantHi I watched the exorcist last night and noticed that after the demon possessed karras, Karras was successful to expel the demon out of himself before he jumped out the window. I mean his eyes were first yellow and when he shouts NO!!, his eyes are normal again. I would like to know what your ideas are on this. was he successful in ridding himself of the demon? Any thoughts?

ParticipantAfter reading your discussion, I was curious about what you would say about the Greek gods.
