ParticipantDoes anyone have an idea when the cover art for the new Blu ray will be released?

ParticipantI’d probably give it another month or two before we get any major updates since it’s not due out until around October and I suspect they'll want to tie in most of the promotion with Halloween. I hope they change the artwork up a bit this time, though. Even if it’s just a special slip cover, there are so many striking images in the film that they could use.

ParticipantI just hope they throw it all on here this time. Feeling a little milked since I just bought the other Blu-Ray. New commentaries would be nice too. Maybe the cast too. Friedkin did the absolute worst commentary on the DVDs. Amazing since I don’t think I’ve ever seen a man that likes to talk more than him!

ParticipantI know a guy who will talk and talk. Name is Bruce. Lol

KeymasterJustin is spot-on. The Blu-ray is expected early October, just like the 2010 release. Back then, details started to arrive around August, so I'd imagine a similar time frame again.
They're going to have to really bring the goods if they expect people to double-up with another Blu-ray. Outside attracting die-hard fans with new features (which I'm sure will rehash all the old interviews and footage we've seen before), I'm not sure what else they can do?
I have a hunch the 2010 Blu-ray will be pulled from shelves and become a rare commodity, like the original DVD.

ParticipantWhat about the EDC version? It's all over the place for $5. Do you guys think they'll pull that, too, when the anniversary Blu ray edition is released? What's your take on that?

Yep. WB likes to yank them all off the shelf to encourage/entice buyers.

ParticipantThanks, Father B. That's what I was thinking, too, otherwise they wouldn't be in the $5 bins. I appreciate your post! 🙂

KeymasterThey're in $5 bins now so the stores can move them before WB pull them out altogether to make way for the new Blu-ray. I assume an accompanying 40th Anniversary DVD is also scheduled.

ParticipantThey will have a dvd for the 40 th too?

KeymasterThere's been no official announcement from WB Home Entertainment but I highly anticipate a DVD also being released alongside the 40th Anniversary blu-ray. They did exactly this with the initial blu-ray release in 2010.

ParticipantAh thanks 🙂

ParticipantI do absolutely agree, Captain Howdy. It's highly doubtful they would release a 40th anniversary Blu ray without a separate, new dvd release. As far as Blu ray has come, many still don't have the players, hence (for example) “Cloud Atlas” came out yesterday with a Blu ray/dvd combo for sale, or you can simply buy it on dvd for about ten bucks cheaper. It's all about money, in the end, and they're going to try and make as much as possible off this 40th anniversary train. The Blu ray will probably (or actually, most-assuredly) have more special features, but the dvd will (I'm betting) be there for your basic consumer as well, with maybe a commentary or preview attached. Nothing like what will be on the Blu ray, though.
I still hope they keep the cover art the same: The one with the priest and the light. I agree with Justin that there are so many stills they could use, but it's just not “The Exorcist” to me without the signature “poster”/cover art. Maybe they will release it with some sort of 3D effect (the way they did the special edition dvd of “The Silence of the Lambs” or something). I could deal with that, but I'm hoping it's not too different. I'm sure many people here noticed that the United Kingdom Blu ray version out right now of “The Exorcist” is the EDC cover with the green-colored Linda Blair, just like the U.S. version of the EDC dvd. I love me some Linda Blair, but that cover's got to go! 🙂

Oh, it's definitely about the moolah. I'll bet WB would have never thought that 40 years later, this film would be raking in the dough but that's what the film industry is about.
The cover did suck with Blair on the cover. The film is known for it's iconic poster.

ParticipantI like all the covers really. So I be happy with anything. 🙂 if you want to call me stupid its fine, but what is a 3D cover?
