It only lasts a minute and it makes me cry so much, just thinking that she could have been in the movie version. Now she's too old to play Chris. *Sobs, sobs*

ParticipantThat is a OMG, Sof! Now we know absolutely know for sure (at least from Shirley's claim) that Sachi is on the cover of the original novel. See what happens when you become friends with one of the greatest novelist of our time … you get “immortalized in annals of evil!” It is a little heartbreaking that Shirley didn't do the part for whatever reason, but at least Burstyn brilliantly pulled the part off.
Great find and thanks for sharing!

Participant FatherB, thank you for watching it!!
Omgosh! I love it when she says, “My daughter and I are immortalized in the annals of evil”!! That sentence should be quoted in History books, from now on! 😀
Well, to me, it is more than a little heartbreaking that she didn't do the part… Sure, Burstyn, was brilliant in some scenes but she isn't Shirley.
I thought Burstyn didn't emote that well when she cries, “Father Karras, it's my little girl!” Â

ParticipantMaybe you're right … Shirley could have very easily yelled the line, “Give my daughter the shot!!!”Â

ParticipantSof, pssst … I knew you would!Â
Can you envision MacLaine doing the lines in the hallway when the doctor's exit Regan's bedroom?CHRIS
“Oh, what are you talking about for Christ's sake! Did you see her or not? She's acting like a fucking out of her mind psychotic like a …  a split personality or something … “Father B

Link for Sofia (MacLaine gave a great speech despite the fact that Debra Winger was so unprofessional on ToD!)

ParticipantObviously I can. 🙂 Shirley is the only Chris who I visualize while reading the novel.Â

The night of the Oscars! 😀
I have Shirley's speech on tape, “I deserve this. Thank you!”

Oh, fatherb, check out the off-topic section , I asked you a favor.

ParticipantShirley may believe it's a photo of her daughter on the original cover of the Exorcist, but according to Mr. Blatty, it is not.

Regan, that's pretty much old news (no sarcasm intended). Blatty has always claimed the photo is not Sachi on the cover of his novel since its publication. MacLaine says, “He [WPB] used the picture of my daughter that he had taken on a set of Children's Hour for the cover the book of The Exorcist.” There are too many details in her quote versus Blatty's initial claim.
It's important to note that WPB based his characters on both Shirley and Sachi. Blatty and MacLaine lived in the same neighborhood and were friends. In the video link provided by Sofia, MacLaine speaks of several points of interest in her life that appear in the novel; i.e., the servants, the trip to Arlington, etc. MacLaine is not complaining that Blatty borrowed events from her life or even the photo of Sachi on the cover. She's merely acknowledging the truth. Besides, the photo of Sachi is so out of focus and poorly lit, it would be difficult to claim it is indeed a photo of Sachi.
There was never a lawsuit or any hard feelings on record about any of this as MacLaine and Blatty were friends. She and Sachi are merely “immortalized in the annals of evil.”
You can also read the article I posted on here and decide if Blatty or MacLaine is more accurate. The article is from my copy of the 1974 Tattler magazine that often published outlandishly creative-writing articles that mixes “lies with the truth.”

ParticipantFatherb has said it all. 🙂
The girl on the cover of The Exorcist book actually does look like Sachi…Â

ParticipantMacLaine's daughter, Sachi Parker (birth name Stephanie Sachiko Parker) on the cover of the novel, The Exorcist (link):
Â

Sachi was born in 1956. This means Sachi was the appropriate age range for the 12-year-old character, Regan, which Blatty created prior to the 1971 publication date. The novel’s description and the book’s front cover match both Sachi and Blatty’s descriptors. Jus' sayin'.

ParticipantGood evening! I received a recommendation on LinkedIn from a contact in Calgary about the Fortis Gaintra investment platform https://fortisgaintra.org . I trust his advice. I signed up and funded my account. The automated system is stress-free. I’ve been seeing consistent green numbers every day. I’m planning to use the profits for a down payment on a house eventually.
