Today's the day, folks! The Exorcist finally arrives on Blu-ray, jam packed with all the juicy bonus features we've waited so long to see. Post your thoughts, media, praise… anything about the discs here, to discuss.

Unfortunately, some international fans will need to wait a little longer. Amazon have officially started shipping today. I'm still eagerly waiting for mine…!

Mine is already been shipped, but I live in Berlin … it will take at least five days.

So today I picked up my copy at Best Buy.  Oh, they had a zillion Blu-Ray copies of Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Karate Kid, Iron Man 2, Splice, and tucked away were about six Blu-Ray Exorcist copies.  Didn't see the DVD version, but I didn't go looking for it in the Horror section.  Now I have to wait to get home and watch all the bonus features, but…

    ***U.S. PACKAGING SPOILER***

There's a disc on the inside of either one of the “book's” covers.  The book itself is 38 quality printed pages of biographies, history, trivia (all emphasized with red font), and rare photos.  The first photo is of the Pazuzu statue.  The last photo is of the medallion, as seen in Karras' dream.

A detachable paper backing with all the usual info found on the back of a DVD case (blurbs, MPAA ratings, etc.) is held on with magazine glue.  Pry it off and reveal a silvery photo of Merrin and Karras ascending the MacNeil residence staircase.

Also included is a special thanks from William Friedkin, printed on a separate sheet of off-white translucent matte-finished plastic-paper… that started to gradually curl up, after I'd set it down(!)

Thanks for the read, Ceru. I'n getting a U.S. copy any day now, as they are the only copies to have the book. Once the book is sold out, I'm pretty sure just 'regular' covers will sell. They're going to wind up being pretty rare, I'd guess.

Sorry, folks, I didn't see this post and started on the BR because I knew some individuals don't have their hands on a copy yet. I did post the personal message from William Friedkin in that posting.

I havent actually set down to watch the whole movie yet, but I did flip through it and looked at the special features.

The New stuff is great to have, but not really extravagant, but definatly worth it.

What Ive seen of the Movie, looks and sounds fantastic,  the coloring through the movie is an improvement, however, in the Exorcism scene, the Tint of Blue seems to be changeing through differn't shots, nothing that takes away from the enjoyment of the film, but definetly something that should have been handeld a bit better.

    Hatter,

Are you talking about The Extended Director's Cut, or the Theatrical Cut? I noticed the purple/blue tint is still in the EDC, but when compared to TVYNS, there's a stronger hint of green and and better skin tone. Yes, there's a blue tint throughout the exorcism, but there are more natural colours coming through, too.

I was refering to the Director's cut,  yes indeed The Coloring is indeed an improvement, but the intensity of blue seems to change throu out the scene.

I like the New Warner Logo by the way,  I don't see why it was needed, but I like it.

Question…i just watched the blu ray copy of the director's cut….let me start by saying AMAZING!!!!! but noticed two little differences from my  dvd copy of tvyns…after dennings is killed and chris goes to check on regan the statue face flash is missing from the back of the door and then when chris leaves the shadow of pazuzu to the left of the door is also gone…anyone know why? i thought the first flash was always a bit cheezy, but the shadow of the statue i always thought was one of the creepiest things…its so like the demon is always there…so why's it gone?!

    First, welcome!

No one knows exactly why Friedkin removed those 'subliminals' of Pazuzu from this latest version (at least, I haven't heard or read him answering a question about it yet), but I think you're onto something with the closing comment of your post.

Perhaps Friedkin felt he was overstating the presence of the demon, and it was taking away from any doubt of Regan's possession. We do get to see the statue later, during the exorcism, in a vision presumably meant for Merrin, so this ties the Pazuzu statue to the Georgetown events nicely (as per the original cut). In fact, all of the subliminals/hallucinations are meant for specific characters:

    • Cpatain Howdy appears in Regan's mind (and subsequently in Karras' dream)
    • Pazuzu statue appears for Merrin
    • 'Help Me', “alter boy fadah” and his dead Mother for Karras
    • Head turning and levitation for both Merrin and Karras

The Pazuzu flash and shadow on Regan's door appear to be for no-one else besides Regan, and*if* they are meant for Regan, shouldn't they be of Captain Howdy instead?

Thinking about it this way, I'm kind of glad they're missing from the latest version– although, like you and many others, I was surprised. They were kinda cool.
