I highly disagree with you. Exorcist II: The Heretic is an unforgettable film experience. I can't think of any other film like it. To start off, I really like the reason it gave for Regan being possessed in the first place. I think the idea of her having the gift of healing and Pazuzu wanting to destroy this gift because it is a trace of goodness in the world was an ingenious idea. I also like the dreamlike atmosphere of the film. It doesn't feel like you're even watching a movie when it is turned on, it feels like you're in the middle of a bizarre nightmare. I also think it was beautifully photographed, the special effects were stellar, and the story was very original and creative. Also, the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard in a horror film. Ennio Morricone did a fantastic job and if the film wasn't universally hated, I bet he would've received an Oscar for his work.

ParticipantIn my opinion there is nothing to save. The film we got is fine the way it is and I would not change a single thing about it. It is one of my top 5 favorite films of all time and nothing anyone says will ever change that.

horror,
I think you'll really enjoy the first two Alien films. Three and four are kind of a bust because they were so dedicated to the franchise that the scripts were too far-fetched even for an Alien spinoff. However, the special effects are incredible thanks to the oversized budgets. BTW, Sigourney Weaver actually made that basketball swish shot behind her head on the very first take!Father Bowdern
I finished watching the first “Alien” the night before last and I really liked it. Some parts really surprised me like the scene where the alien burst out of Kane's chest. I was glad when Ripley survived because Ripley was my favorite character. I was also glad when the cat survived in the end because I am a huge fan of cats. The movie was really good. I am glad I watched it. I may watch the second this weekend. I haven't decided for sure yet.

Even the therapy room in Heretic was sort of “sci-fi-ish” with the automatic sliding glass doors, moving aside as if one were in a starship. (I know, supermarket doors do that too, but the way it was presented in Heretic was stylized.) 🙂
I really liked the therapy room. I thought it was neater looking than any doctor's office I ever saw in real life. I also liked Regan and Sharon's apartment because all of the walls and floors looked like mirrors kind of.

ParticipantI checked out the first two “Alien” movies from the library earlier today. I am very excited to watch them both. I have never seen them before but from everything I've read, it sounds like they are very good!

I saw the 2nd over halloween & it bored the pants of me. Not sure what was different but it just didn't get under my skin like the first one.
I liked the first one better too. I liked the sequel and all, but I felt like I had seen it all before because there really wasn't anything new.

horror2 … are you old enough to remember the 1970's and this disaster film in movie theaters? The “synchronizer” is only one component of why E2 bombed at theaters. At least the original intrigued individuals enough without relying on the actual “time machine” that Karras mentions in The Exorcist. 🙂 LOL 🙂
Father Bowdern
No, I wasn't. And in a way, I'm kind of glad I wasn't. While it would have been nice to see Exorcist 2 on the big screen, I don't think I would have liked people laughing and screaming things at the screen which I read is what happened on Wikipedia. That would ruin the fun for me. I have never seen the Director's cut version though but I really want to. I think there are copies of the “Making Of” book on Amazon.com.

I've seen Airport 75. I think this movie is a little ridicoules, but it has good stuff. As sar as Linda's concerned, her role is really not very big. You don't see much of her, but when she is shown she's really sweet(:
I've been meaning to see Airport 75 for a while now. It has Linda Blair and Karen Black so it must be good. I think I am getting Witchery and The Chilling for Christmas so hopefully I'll like them. I'm not picky at all when it comes to movies though so I probably will like them.

ParticipantI really want to meet Linda Blair too. She is my second favorite actress of all time, only behind Jamie Lee Curtis. I read that she was at a convention just a few hours away from me a couple months ago. Hopefully I will get to meet her someday.

I can’t see this movie doing well financially at all.Looks like I was wrong. It was #1 in the box office.

ParticipantI enjoyed “The Exorcist,” “Exorcist II: The Heretic,” “Repossessed,” “Hell Night,” and “Summer of Fear.”

ParticipantI was going to see this film but now that I know it is an unoriginal ripoff, I am having second thoughts. I think Hollywood figures that a lot of fans would be extremely angry if they were to remake “The Exorcist,” and there would be a lot of backlash so ripping it off would be the next best thing. I can’t see this movie doing well financially at all.

ParticipantI really need to buy a Blu-Ray player. So many great Blu-Ray discs have been being released lately with wonderful extra features and I won’t get to see them because I only have a VHS and DVD player.

Oh, yeah. The synchronizer … you mean the lightbulb with tin foil that makes that obnoxious humming noise. That was so believable and frightening!
Father Bowdern
I happen to like the synchronizer and it is in my opinion a neat addition to the movie. And as for believability, I don’t think a science fiction/fantasy/horror film is an appropriate place to look for believability anyway.

Time will tell how much this movie will fall short of the champ!
Father Bowdern
I agree. I just watched the trailer and I don’t think the movie will be very successful. I think moviegoers will say “it just looks like a ripoff of ‘The Exorcist,’ ‘Paranormal Activity,’ and ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose.'” I can’t see this movie doing very well in the box office, but I’ve been wrong before.
