Howdy guys,

I’ve been watching some proper trash movies of recent. Beyond the Door, Seytan & The Antichrist.

2 things struck me about these films, yes they all suck, but more interestingly The Antichrist has similar themes to The Heretic. So I’ve come to the conclusion that The Antichrist is probably a better sequal to The Exorcist than The Heretic.

First off I’m not saying The Antichrist is a good film, IT’S NOT, but it’s a more focused fim that deals with a very similar subject matter that The Heretic does, but in a much more focused way.

For me the main flaw of The Heretic is that it can’t decide what it’s about. As a result you have a mish-mash of plots. One for Regan, one for Fr Lamont & the other for Fr Merrin. As a result none of the plots really work & the film as a whole falls apart.

In The Antichrist however it just focuses on one plot that of the women. Like in Heretic there’s hypnosis & psychiatric elements, but theses are entirely focused on the women & her life. (Unlike Heretic which use the hypnosis to go on a wild goose chase in Africa.)

As a result the 1st half of The Antichrist is not that bad & I think a little bit better than Heretic. Sadly the 2nd half falls apart as the writer & director just follow the same old demonic stuff you’ve seen ever in every possession movie since The Exorcist.

But still I think the 1st half works pretty well & has some pretty OK ideas & is worth watching for any Exorcist fan espcially if you bear in mind the similarities between it & the Heretic & how The Antichrist actually pulls of those ideas off better.

The Antichrist is the best of the bad.

It would actually be a good sequel to Dominion, with the whole disabled being ‘healed’ theme.

The exorcism in that movie is also very reminiscent of the one thrown in Exorcist III, but better.

Makes you wonder if they’ve all been ripping off the rip offs.

I know what you mean about rip off of a rip off, with all the snake & fire.

& disabled being ‘healed’ theme is a good one, I over looked that.

But that’s what makes The Antichrist curious. It’s not just a dumb rip off, it’s a thoughfull rip off!!!
