I found my copy of the 32-page Tattler Special from 1974 . I don’t have a scanner bed large enough to hold the pages, so pics will have to do now. I only took a few for right now …

Sofia, you may have this article about Shirley and Sachi from this Tattler edition. If not, send me an email to you know where and I’ll be glad to mail a scanned hard copy to you for your collection.

PS: BTW, due to copyright violations (and WB’s clever publicity department), the Tattler, nor any other media source, could use the photos of Blair in the demon makeup; i.e., the pictures of the the demon are a “simulation and posed by a professional model.”

You’re welcome … this was a great publicity piece for The Exorcist (along with every magazine that could capitalize on it).

BTW, notice that the Tattler implored a “truly investigative style” (j/k) about the film by interviewing both Graham and LaVey (Google them if you don’t know who they are). Oh, and having Jeane Dixon right under Billy Boy was probably an insult to him … but, you have to make those payments on the church cameras some how.

    Thanks for posting!

I’ve had those two photos in my ‘rare pictures’ folder for a while now and always thought they looked nothing like Linda or Eileen. Makes sense now 😀

No problem on posting them. The makeup is horrible on their “professional model.”

BTW, I always get ticked when I see the photo of Blair’s double in The Exorcist II: The Heretic and it’s referred to as Linda Blair in the demon makeup in The Exorcist. The bad thing is that Blair actually signs those copies at conventions when fans bring them by.

    Oh well.

Yes that really bugs me too.

That one photo of her double in bed reaching out to Max was actually on the back of an Australian VHS cover for The Exorcist (major facepalm). And I saw a picture just today of Linda at a convention a few years back… behind her they were selling that photo for her to sign.

Eileen Dietz also thinks its herself…

    Justin,

That is interesting news about the VHS. I recall reading an article about EII and Blair years ago. The article focused in on Blair and it boiled down to the small amount star power she gained from the original film and why we don’t see her in the possessed makeup. “Using stock shots of Linda Blair from the first film for the climax (all new shots of Regan possessed were done by a double because Linda Blair refused to have the possession makeup done on her again) …”

I did do a small amount research to see if EII gave credit to Blair’s demon makeup double, but I can’t find one. Karen Knapp comes up, but I believe she was the voice for only certain parts.

When you mention Dietz, did you mean she believes that the picture we’re talking of is that of her? Surely, she can’t think that’s a picture of herself. However, she’s a bit spaced-out and makes claims like this often: “People often like to call me a stunt double but I wasn’t a double and I wasn’t a stunt girl and I wasn’t all kinds of things they like to call me. I was a principal actress in the film. Photo doubles and stunt doubles do not get residuals, so it’s a delineation between being a double and being a principal actor in the show. Because I didn’t do extra work. Being a double is an extra. I didn’t do extra work then; I don’t do extra work now.”

Come on Eileen, you can’t get residuals for an non-credited, non-speaking role no matter how convincing you want those types of statements to sound. Even SAG guidelines state: “For acting/on-screen appearances you must provide a character name (e.g. “John”) or role (e.g. “Jury Member”). Submissions with an empty character field or with descriptions like “lead”, “supporting”, “featured”, “background”, “extra” or “bit-part” will automatically be discarded.” Tsk, tsk, Eileen. You must have a great lawyer or WB decided to give you residuals until you die because they like you, they really like you.

There’s a recent interview with Deitz at a horror convention somewhere on YouTube. She seems like a lovely lady but definitely takes a bit too much credit where it isn’t due. When the interviewer (who hadn’t seen the film) asked her what it’s like to have a NECA figure of herself, she didn’t bother to correct him and say it’s modelled after Linda Blair…

But I guess when your only claim to fame is THE EXORCIST, you would want to get as much out of it as you could. I certainly would.

And yes, it seems she does believe the Heretic picture is her, it’s all over her official websites and she sells it for signing at conventions.

Justin, I agree that she is quite eccentric and more than precocious regarding her appearance in The Exorcist. You must have seen the same link I put on here somewhere about Dietz because I do recall exactly what you are referring to about the NECA figurine. The link above is the Shockerfest 2009 (point 5:20) where Dietz refers to the bobble head and that hideous picture from EII.

The sad thing is that Eileen Dietz will never receive credit like McCambridge did and deservedly so. Like you said, she seems like a nice person, but you have to call an ace an ace.
