This is my first post to the board. I absolutely love this film. It is, in my opinion, simply one of the greatest horror films of all time along with the Romero Dead films, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I especially love Jason Miller’s performance. He is awesome as a man of both science and faith who is struggling with his own inner demons. The soundwork in the film is excellent and Friedkin is genius. I was lucky enough to see it last Halloween at the Alamo Drafthouse with a live chamber concert with classical bassist PK Waddle. It was awesome and they even did a classical version of tubular bells….here is the link.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv20YAw0Fcs
jguthrie, I love all the films you mention, but I have to say they don’t hold a candle to The Exorcist. There wasn’t anything like before it was made and there hasn’t been anything after to date. It is the classic that so many want to reproduce and they do it unsuccessfully. It’s the bomb! 😛
