You may enjoy it – but be prepared – it's very different from the movie ๐

Well…I think The Exorcist is a masterpeice of a film, and I felt that the novel plugged up some…”empty spaces” for me. I really did like EXIII a lot. Blatty, under the restrictions of Morgan FUCKING Creek worked with what he got and somehow, he made it work very well. Even with Kinderman being a vindictive douchebag.

I think that blatty's novels really do undermine the psyche, and even in the original novel you ask yourself “was she really possessed or was she mentally ill?” Its like with Regan and Burke Dennings. Even though it seems that Regan killed him, I think it's canon that the Islamic demon Pazuzu killed Burke. Its like in Legion “Did Karras survive the fall and suffer brain damage that made him belive he was the Gemini Killer or was Karras' dead body actually infused with the Gemini Killer's wayward spirit?”

Science vs Supernatural…..

ParticipantYeah, and I think you will find that in the Legion novel, Blatty stretches that dichotomy between natural and supernatural explanations almost to the last page. In that, Legion does resemble The Exorcist by keeping the question open and the suspense sharp ๐

exorcist 3,much better film intirely, better cast ,george c scott was great, and it was a bonus to see the return of jason miller, some great scary scenes in this film, nothin much in e2,and the music score was much better.
I highly disagree with you. Exorcist II: The Heretic is an unforgettable film experience. I can't think of any other film like it. To start off, I really like the reason it gave for Regan being possessed in the first place. I think the idea of her having the gift of healing and Pazuzu wanting to destroy this gift because it is a trace of goodness in the world was an ingenious idea. I also like the dreamlike atmosphere of the film. It doesn't feel like you're even watching a movie when it is turned on, it feels like you're in the middle of a bizarre nightmare. I also think it was beautifully photographed, the special effects were stellar, and the story was very original and creative. Also, the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard in a horror film. Ennio Morricone did a fantastic job and if the film wasn't universally hated, I bet he would've received an Oscar for his work.

ParticipantExorcist 3 is a YAY!
Exorcist 2 is a yawn!
So I think 3 should of been the sequel and so does my dad. I sure do love when Blatty directs. Much better. And scary! ๐

ParticipantPlus it brought the viewer back to the Georgetown we loved in the first film. Heretic only featured a fake back-lot Georgetown, but Blatty brings us back to the real deal in the first frames of Legion (even though a few scenes were shot elsewhere). The long shot for the opening credits takes us slowly down the street, where on the right the MacNeill house begins to loom and in the center of the shot is the top of the Hitchcock Steps. So the film immediately, from its first visuals,รย places us in “good old Exorcist” territory…

ParticipantYep. A nice, brief but atmospheric return to the first film. But then came the horrific, imo, DeVorzon score with its over the top stabs of “scream music” … and also those horrible “Lion Demon Growls” in the opening night scenes in Georgetown, which to me were just a cheap horror cliche, not at all scary, as if Blatty was worried the film wasn't scary enough, so he decided to dump cheap, ineffectual sound effects into the soundtrack…
