I\'m liking that poster, far more high impact than just the image of an older Regan. I could never stand the image at the end of the trailer< with Richard Burton and Linda Blair sharing an eyeball!

I don\'t really care for this poster too much. It looks more like a book cover than a film poster. I\'m glad they used the other one with Regan\'s face. And I love the image of Linda Blair and Richard Burton sharing an eyeball. It gives a very subtle hint of the synchronizer which is a very important part of the film because it shows that they both share the same visions while under hypnosis.

Oh, yeah. The synchronizer … you mean the lightbulb with tin foil that makes that obnoxious humming noise. That was so believable and frightening!

We may ask what is relevant, but anything beyond that is dangerous.

I happen to like the synchronizer and it is in my opinion a neat addition to the movie. And as for believability, I don\'t think a science fiction/fantasy/horror film is an appropriate place to look for believability anyway.

horror2 … are you old enough to remember the 1970\'s and this disaster film in movie theaters? The \"synchronizer\" is only one component of why E2 bombed at theaters. At least the original intrigued individuals enough without relying on the actual \"time machine\" that Karras mentions in The Exorcist. :) LOL :)

\"No! Once the wings have brushed you, you are mine forever!\"
I have to cringe when I hear that line hehe. When I first saw it, it really made no sense. I wasn\'t really expecting a sci-fi movie =P.. I personally found the synchronizer somewhat laughable. But hey, I\'d watch it 1,000 more times to see linda blair in it ;)

I still say that syncronizer doo-hickey was lifted from the British sci fi classic Quatermass & the Pit. A woman straps it onto herself & suddenly she\'s in the head of a locust capable of possessing human beings. I\'ve watched these films together and cannot help see similarities, from the relationship between charactors to the final invasion of the cities by a locust entity.

You\'re right!

Quatermass and the Pit, a really thoughtful piece of science fiction.

Well, \"Pazuzu\'s Regan is the only Regan\", according to the evil/sexy, scrunchy-nose Regan.

After looking at the poster for a time, I came away with the same feeling. It almost seems to mislead one in believing that it would have been as scary as the first….but then you see that Pazuzu statue with locust wings…….I vote for the poster of Linda\'s face that they did use.

They should use this poster for the artwork of a 2 disc Blu-ray with both cuts of the movie Laughing

I agree with Justin– that would make a great DVD/Blu-ray cover image.

I've always wondered about that first cut of The Heretic. Could it have really been that bad? I guess so, considering what we were left with.

The original cut is the one released on DVD, isn't it? Or is there another one?

I just remember there being two different VHS versions. The 'original theatrical cut' had a black cover and is the one included in all the box sets. Then there was the rare cut Boorman made after the movie was released, which was in a red cover and included the badly dubbed bits from the original film (my favorite being a shot of Linda yelling "Fu*k him Karras" which was dubbed over with "Fill her up!!"). I have a really poor quality copy of that somewhere.

That reminds me, I need to get a copy of that making-of book! Anyone know where to find it?

No, I wasn't. And in a way, I'm kind of glad I wasn't. While it would have been nice to see Exorcist 2 on the big screen, I don't think I would have liked people laughing and screaming things at the screen which I read is what happened on Wikipedia. That would ruin the fun for me. I have never seen the Director's cut version though but I really want to. I think there are copies of the "Making Of" book on Amazon.com.

You're right. People were so pissed off at how ridiculous the film was. Nothing could save it, including Richard Burton (although he was hammered most of the time during the production as usual). If you really enjoy the film, I get it and understand why you would be ticked if others laughed. The same thing happens when newer audiences see the original film on the big screen. I guess it all depends on how we view something exceptional while others kick our beliefs through laughter.
